Palin Positioning for Possible 2012 Presidential Run

January 21, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Despite polls showing Palin’s unpopularity at stratospheric levels of 56%, her advisors are continuing to make sure that she is positioned to be able to compete for the Republican presidential primary should she choose to run.

While most political strategists consider an unpopularity rating over 50% as career-ending, Palin is planning to give tow speeches in the important swing state of Nevada, while her team continues to make overtures to key Iowa activists in that early caucus state.  She is expected to talk about guns to a friendly crowd, and in keeping with her recent speech on the same night as Obama’s speech at the Arizona memorial for the Giffords shooting tragedy, one of her speeches will be next Tuesday – the same night at President Obama’s State of the Union speech.  Clearly she is trying to get news coverage on the same night as the President, setting herself up as an equal alternative to the President.

Other Republicans who are clearly also positioning themselves for a the Republican primary include Mormon Multi-Millionaire Mitt (Romney), Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Let the games begin!

Palin is so Forgettable

April 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

John McCain is getting a lot of flak from the hard right evangelical backers of Sarah Palin for leaving the Alaska Governor off of the list of strong gubernatorial Republican candidates for the Presidency in 2012.

Who made the list?

  • Bobby Jindahl (Governor, LA)
  • Tim Pawlenty (Governor, MN)
  • Jim Huntsman (Governor, UT)
  • Mitt Romney (Former Governor, MA)
  • Charlie Crist (Governor, FL)

Recognizing his omission, McCain said “I’ve left out somebody’s name, and I’m going to hear about it.”

This follows his comments last December where he refused to outright back Palin’s presumed future bid by saying:

“I can’t say something like that,”  adding “We’ve got some great other young governors. I think you’re going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party.”

McCain Wouldn't Necessarily Support Palin Presidential Bid

December 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In a sign of the cracks in the McCain-Palin relationship, McCain over the weekend said that he wouldn’t necessarily support a Palin bid for the Presidency in 2012.  Instead he said that there were a lot of strong Republican Governors that should be strong candidates.

We can only wish that McCain had done a better job of vetting and selecting his Vice Presidential pick a few months ago.

McCain also went on record against the RNC’s advertisements trying to tar Obama with the scandal now surrounding Illinois Governor Blogojevich.  The Republicans have long practiced the “art” of slander by association and insinuation.  Thankfully we are seeing more of the “old McCain” in standing against the worst of these tactics.
